Acne Myths Revealed

With so much acne misinformation on the web, I wanted to clear up a few of the myths that may be holding your skin back from its natural beauty. Perhaps you've been buying into some of the myths detailed below. By getting your facts straight, you will slowly eliminate all the habits that are bringing on the breakouts. Although you can find all the detailed information in the 3 Day Acne Cure, this should give you a nice start.
Myth #1 - Tanning will clear up your Skin.
This myth developed when people began to notice their acne less after a day at the beach or a tanning bed session. The tan may, for a short time, make acne less visible, but it certainly won't make it disappear. Sun exposure has a drying effect and can sometimes temporarily dry up excess Sebum in the skin. However, it is not a controlled solution.
The drying effect can cause similar irritation to overmedicating or washing your face incorrectly. Also, sunburns will definitely bring on more breakouts. UV rays have been proven over and over again to have aging and cancer inducing effects on the skin. Quite simply, the negative effects far outweigh any short-term benefit of this "drying out" strategy. Stay out of the sun and the tanning beds. You'll only be encouraging your acne.
Myth #2 - Avoid wearing makeup if you want clear skin
Choosing cosmetics that are nonacnegenic or noncomedogenic is the key here. Most of the popular products make this their standard. Actually, you can now find concealers on the market that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. This may be a double edged sword though. You don't necessarily want to use a concealer with medication in it as it may cause overdrying, irritation and further breakouts. The thing to remember here is as long as you're using a noncomedogenic cosmetic, you'll be in the clear. Your makeup will not contribute to your acne and you can dispel this myth confidently.
This myth came into play when oil-free makeup wasn't as readily available. Today's makeup contains vitamin E and vitamin A on top of their fundamental components to actually promote a healthier complexion. I hope this has taken the fear out of your makeup use. The fact is, these companies only want to help your skin appearance.
Myth #3 - Stress Causes Acne
This myth has some truth to it. However, if you are implementing the right acne regimen, no bout of stress will ever bring out another breakout again. So where did this myth derive from?
Scientists have linked that when emotional stress occurs, your body produces additional androgens (hormones). One of these androgens produced is Cortisol. Cortisol has been proven to increase weight gain and the production of oil from Sebaceous glands. So yes, in theory, stress can cause more breakouts. However, I dispel this myth because with the proper treatment methods, you can counterbalance these hormonal fluctuations. When you know these treatments, you are able to control your skin's homeostasis and your complexion will remain unchanged even when your Sebum levels temporarily rise. So don't stress over this myth. It's well within your control.
Myth #4 - Chocolate Causes Acne
Thank goodness this myth is FALSE! I'm a chocolate fanatic and this would be a crushing road block for my acne problem. Thankfully, this myth is 100% untrue. Unless you have an allergy to chocolate, it won't cause pimples. This myth was brought to form when it was discovered that Candida infections cause acne. Candida is a fungus that lives in your body and thrives on sugar. When sugar levels are at a constant high in the body, a condition known as Candida overgrowth may occur and bring about constant breakouts. Eating sugary chocolate non-stop can certainly encourage this kind of condition. However, I don't need to tell you that this kind of eating ritual isn't recommended in any circumstance. Bottom line, you're safe eating chocolate so long as you maintain a healthy diet.
